Story
In 2013, I had the privilege of visiting the Kick4Life project in Lesotho, Southern Africa, taking part in their All Stars tour helping to educate children and young people about HIV & AIDS, as well as playing football against local community leaders and teachers. This work included running workshops to educate them on how HIV & AIDS is spread, how to avoid contracting it and passing it on and if they do contract the disease, how to live a long and healthy life through taking proper medication. Lesotho has the third highest percentage in the world of adults with HIV & AIDS, with almost 25% of the population being infected.
The work that Kick4Life is doing is helping to combat and reduce this shocking statistic, through using football as the tool with which to engage and educate the next generation of Lesotho. Football is used as the hook to get young people involved in the programme, with the charity then delivering vital work all-year round.
Inspired by my story, my girlfriend Ellie has decided that she wants a piece of the action too! So...we are aiming to raise £5000 so that we can both go back to Lesotho in 2015 as part of the Kick4Life All Stars Tour, where we will educate and engage with hundreds of some of the poorest but incredible children on the planet, as well as be lucky enough to play football games against school teachers and members of the local community in some of the most surreal locations in front of crowds of cheering kids!! (Ellie will be head cheerleader!).
We will be doing lots of fun things to reach our fundraising target, including a Christman Charity Fundraising Ball, a sky dive and lots of other things!
We hope you will support us as much as you can for this amazing charity!
Thanks,
Kev & Ellie x
