Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
One fateful evening last June, I made a pledge to run a half-marathon before 12 months had passed (thanks for that, Mr P). When I woke up next morning, I realised the enormity of what I'd promised and nearly backed out then and there. Thanks to the support of my family and friends, though (especially a few dedicated colleagues at work), I've worked incredibly hard and may actually be able to do it... WE'RE OFF TO BERLIN THIS WEEKEND TO TRY TO RUN THE HALF-MARATHON!!!
I'm raising money for a very special organisation, Small Steps, who are based in Putney.
'Small Steps, School for Parents helps parents to help their own children who have cerebral palsy or other forms of motor and sensory impairment'
I first became aware of this phenomenal organisation when speaking to a parent at Brandlehow, whose son has been very successfully supported by the charity. With her encouragement, I went to visit. The welcome I received was amazing and I spoke with them about how we could create links between Small Steps and Brandlehow that would benefit both schools.
As many of you know, Brandlehow is holding another sponsored event, a three-legged fun run, to raise money next Tuesday. Our Year 6 pupils have also been visiting the Small Steps site to learn from and help with the work that goes on there. We feel really privileged to have met the dedicated staff and to have met some of the amazing children and their parents.
In addition to this, I wanted to see if I could do my own bit to contribute to this very special organisation.
If you'd like to learn more about them, please visit their website at: http://www.smallstepssfp.org.uk/
As most of you will know, I've never asked for sponsorship en mass before, but this charity has inspired me to make a difference. I'd be grateful for any donations you could make (I know times are hard!), or for your best wishes and thoughts on Sunday to enable me to complete my goal. I'll update the page next week to let you know how I got on (there may even be pictures!)
I've never run a distance this great before, I've never hassled this many people for money, and I've never told the world I'm about to do something this hard and therefore raised the pressure levels so high...
Thank you so much for your support and contributions.
xx Ellie xx
29.3.10:
I did it!!!
Too tired to write details now, but 2 hours, 10 minutes and 26 seconds... Hooray!
Thanks so, so much to those of you who have donated so far - incredibly generous; the money raised before I left was a huge incentive between 15k and 19k!
I'll write more when I next feel alive :-)
