Story
In May 2014, I will be visiting a local village Kabaka in the heart of Zambia with 19 other colleagues. We will be building a new school which will also be used to house it's dedicated teachers.
The current school uses an empty health clinic and makeshift classrooms of sticks and grass. There are 258 pupils, 171 girls and 87 boys, on the school register. We will be changing this into a comfortable, safe and secure building where the children can continue to learn and develop basic skills such as literacy and numeracy. The new building will also benefit the wider community and when solar lighting is installed, the building will allow for many other uses such as; adult literacy classes, evening homework clubs, church meetings and after school clubs such as choir and drama.
This is a huge deal to the community who live on less that 80p per day and currently have to work 10 miles a day to get to the current school, this alone will make for a brighter future for each of the children there.
It's not going to be easy to raise my target of £3,500 but I am hoping with the help and support of people I will get there. Watch out for any events I will be holding over the next couple of months. In the meantime any donation no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to help the Zambian community.
