Brad developed a breathing problem so that when he was crying and exhaling his airways would collapse and he could not inhale. We at the time were not aware of this and on a visit to the Freeman hospital’s children’s heart unit Brad started to cry and so his airways collapsed. But this time they did not open and after some time the crash team were called and he was brought back to us. This was an unbelievable time he was rushed into intensive care and the decision to give brad a heart bypass was took Brad was just over 2 month old at the time. The bypass was a total success he stayed in intensive care for 2 weeks before heading down to the ward but he was still kept on Oxygen. The pressure of the oxygen kept his airways open and allowed them to strengthen. Brad still had his hole in his heart at this point but because of his airways the operation was postponed. Brad was realised from hospital a little over 3 months from when he first went in and when he was just over a year he had a successful operation to patch the hole in his heart.
