On the 18th October, we are going to run 13
miles around Cardiff...Yes, we had a glass of wine in hand when we
signed up for this half marathon. No, we have not (yet) tried to run
whilst knocking back the Cava. We have trained up and down the hills
of Ealing, across the mountains of Christchurch, and along the harbour
of Auckland. We have been laughed at by the man selling trainers in
Nike Town (feel free to go and see the video footage), and have battled
on through bad knees, sore hips, jogger's nipple, tennis elbow and
writer's block...for those of you who think this will be a walk in the
park for one of us, cast your mind back to how much exercise your PE teacher actually did at school....
As we have stepped up the training, we are no longer singing to Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run, and instead are whimpering to Queen, Under Pressure....so we thought perhaps it was about time we asked you to put your hand in your pocket and give us some money....
We
will be running for Stonewall. This is a charity working towards
equality and justice for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. The current
focus is education in schools and the workplace. Young people and
adults still suffer bullying and harassment, simply for having the
courage to be themselves. This is a charity that many of you will not
have had any experience of, or a personal investment in. However, it is important to us to
ensure the progressive work of Stonewall continues.
So...we know times are hard, but think of us sipping mineral water and eating brown rice over the next few weeks, and donate what you might spend on a round of drinks or a take away. We would love your support, especially as race day gets closer!
With love,
Emma and Maggie
