iSightCornwall is Cornwall’s local, independent sight loss charity. Our team is ready to help everyone with sight loss, whether recent or longstanding, sudden or gradual. We’ll help you to understand your eye condition and provide you with practical support to continue doing the things you love.

Story

UPDATE: Due to reasons beyond their control the Cornwall Blind Association has been forced to postpone the Firewalk. The new date will now be Friday March 19, 2010.

I will still be taking part but thought I should let you all know. Thank you to everyone for their support so far!! :)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you will know I am not the bravest person and have fears of everything - accept fire it would seem ... so I have decided to roll up my trouser legs and do a firewalk for Cornwall Blind Association and would really appreciate your support.

Working for the Cornish Guardian I am always writing stories about others doing things for charity and admire them so it’s time for me to give something back.

Firewalking is the act of walking barefoot over a bed of hot wooden coals. A combination of pine, ash and oak is burnt and then broken down into a smooth red hot path of embers. The lane itself is between 15-20ft long and 2-3ft wide.

During the course of the burn down the temperature of the fire reaches over 1236° Fahrenheit and when it comes time to walk on the coals the fire lane will be burning at a core temperature of over 800° degrees Fahrenheit.

If anyone would like to join me you would be more than welcome – whether it’s doing the event too or coming along on the night to cheer me on. The firewalking starts at 8.30pm on Wednesday October 28 at Bodmin Jail.
