Emilie in Uganda? What for?
For those who don’t know me, the following interview will hopefully help you understand the reasons and objectives for this fundraising:
Emilie, why did you choose to go to Africa?
Going abroad as a volunteer is something I have thought about for a long time. I have always felt that Africa is an attractive continent for its colours, music & culture. It is also a place where help is more than needed and if my skills can be useful for at least one person, I would be more than happy!
Which organisation are you going with?
I am going with an organisation called Restless Development. I have chosen this organisation for different reasons:
1 - It’s a registered charity (number: 1127488)2 - It was founded in 1985 which means that they have gained experience concerning the organisation of their programs as well as the impact and consequences of their acts
3- Their mission is to place young people at the forefront of change and development which I feel is the key for a real change of the current situation in many African countries
What will you be doing in Uganda?
I will be volunteering as a Peer Educator for 7 month from January 2011 to August 2011.
My mission is called Youth Empowerment Program and consists in helping young people become active members of their communities. By giving them a better Education, we hope to improve their present and future life style.
Why do you need to raise money?
Restless Development is asking us to raise money for two reasons:The first one obviously is to contribute to the organisation’s overseas development work.
The second one is also a way to prove my investment and motivation for this organisation. Raising money is not an easy task and I can assure you, it really makes me realise that everyone is essential in such an organisation, from the volunteers to the full time fundraisers!
I hope this short explanation gave you a better idea of what my project is all about. If you want more details, don’t hesitate to contact me, I will be happy to talk and talk about it!
