Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a Charity which my grandfather Anthony Sabin has inspired me to support. He is rather deaf and had a hearing dog, Branson, who changed the quality of his life and added to ours too. My 87 year old grandfather and Branson have over the past eight years walked more than 650 miles and raised £75,000 for Hearing Dogs.  Branson, always his faithful companion on these walks, sadly passed away in 2010. This summer, I am cycling across Spain for over 1000km, to help fund another hearing dog for a deaf person.

As my grandfather, who has just had a hip operation, has been unable to organise a walk this year, and in Branson’s memory, I have decided to take on my own challenge in order to raise money for a charity which transformed my grandfather’s life, enabling day to day tasks which many take for granted.

My challenge will be to cycle across Spain, my friend Bridget (who will be completing the first half of the trip with me) and I will be flying to Malaga on the 14 June, and we will make our way up to Madrid through Cordoba and Ciudad Real. From there I will head to San Sebastian through Zaragoza and Pamplona. The journey will exceed 1000km, and I plan to complete it in under 21 days.

I believe that all the money donated by generous sponsors should go straight to the charity and not to fund my trip. I therefore applied for a travelling scholarship from my university (the University of Manchester), and am pleased that the Zochonis Special Enterprise Fund of the University, awarded me a grant to cover my travel costs and expenses for this challenge. 100% of your support will therefore go to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Hearing Dogs for Deaf People gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Please sponsor me and help me to achieve my £2000 target!  Many thanks
