Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

Dear Team GB

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving Page.

Trekking through the foothills of the Himalayas probably won’t win me a gold medal but I’m out to set a personal best in a bid to raise funds for the Marie Curie Hospice, Hampstead. The 5 day challenge in May 2013, starts from Dharamsala home to the Dalai Lama, and will finish at Laka Got in Triund, India.

Like me, my loving brother Justice was a keen sports spectator. We were both excited about the prospects of London 2012 Olympics. Then when he was told he had an aggressive form of cancer, I knew we were in for a race against time.

I hadn’t realised how prevalent cancer is until Justice’s diagnosis last year. He was only 47 when the gruelling disease snatched his life away. I felt so helpless even though I did my best to take care of him. Watching his demise broke my heart.

Marie Curie is a phenomenal champion. The care Justice received under a team of devoted nurses, doctors, domiciliary staff and volunteers at the Hampstead hospice was extraordinary. My brother said they were all “amazing people”. The team is dedicated to providing quality of life for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses. Please donate to help me do something amazing for others.

Every donation received is a victorious contribution towards improving quality of life for people with terminal illnesses. It costs £515 a day to care for an inpatient. Without the support of trekkers it would not be possible. Last year my local hospice cared for more than 1,000 patients. I think that’s a triumphant achievement worth trekking for.

Yours gratefully,

Emily Momoh
