Story
As you may or may not know, I'm currently volunteering in Tacloban, Philippines where Super-Typhoon Yolanda hit last November. I've signed up for 2.5 months during which I'll be digging ditches, clearing debris and building transitional homes for many deserving families. I'm taking a break from traveling to do this physically tiring but extremely rewarding work, and I need your support!
About 4 million people were displaced by the typhoon. Since March, All Hands Volunteers have built 146 transitional shelters, allowing whole families to be relocated to a safer environment. However, there are still 31,000 people living in tents and inadequate housing and we, together, can change that.
The volunteers here have joined together to raise 1.1 million Philippine Pesos ($27,500 CAD) between now and the 9th of November, the one year anniversary of Super-Typhoon Yolanda. With 1.1 million pesos, one peso for every house that was destroyed, we can construct nine new homes and strengthen the communities in which they are built. To kick off this campaign, 37 of us are joining a run taking place in Tacloban City.
If you read all that, good for you! Just a bit more to go. I'm running 10km in the swealtering heat on my only day off from hard manual labour. If you support this cause (or if I've guilt-tripped you enough), please help by donating! Any donation, big or small, is much appreciated. I'm aiming to raise $100 by August 31st, so donate quick because it's coming up soon (less than two weeks!).
Thank you so much for your support.
