Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

I have entered Racing The Planet's "Gobi March" 2012, one of the world’s top endurance events. This involves running 250km (155 miles/ 6 marathons) across China's Gobi Desert from 10th-16th June. As if this were not challenging enough, the race is entirely self-supported... all they provide is water and space in a tent each night. I will be running with an 8-9kg backpack containing all of my supplies for the week and dealing with the delights of wearing the same clothes every day in 40-degree heat, not showering, eating freeze-dried food... not to mention the joys of foot care.

While some of you may think me certifiably insane, I am doing this in aid of a charity close to my family's heart- the Cystic Fibrosis Trust- and in honour of my cousin's daughter Emma Kingston who bravely battles her own 250km every day with this crippling incurable disease. I am blessed to have lungs that are capable of attempting a feat like this, and while her incredible zest for life may fool you otherwise, she does not have the same luxury. The Trust is an amazing charity that has helped spur massive medical advances in treatment, preservation of quality of life and prolonging life expectancy, as well as providing moral support to sufferers and their families. Any amount you can donate would mean a lot to me and my family.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
