Emily takes on the PCT!

Emily takes on the PCT! · 20 April 2018
So anyone who knows me (or at least follows me on social media) will know that I have a bit of a thing for walking. For me the ideal holiday involves at least one hike!
I am currently taking an 'F3' year, time out of my medical training in order to work, travel and basically walk as much as I can in some cool places before I continue specialty training.
I figured that it would be a good idea to use this time to take on a huge challenge, hence the PCT! For those of you who may not have heard of it (or haven't seen Wild with Reese Witherspoon), it is a 2650+ mile hiking trail from the border of Mexico to Canada. It crosses many of the major National Parks and Mountain ranges in West Coast America and is going to take me about 5 months (fingers crossed!). 5 months of camping, carrying my life on my back, avoiding bears and presumably a fair few blisters.
Oh and I have also managed to persuade my boyfriend Pete to bite the bullet, quit his job and come on this crazy adventure with me! Let's hope he still thinks I am worth it at the finish...
I am hoping that at least a few people will be inspired by my efforts enough to spare a few quid and help me raise some money for the Huntington's Disease Association (HDA). HD is a horrible neurodegenerative genetic disorder and the HDA is a fantastic charity that supports the people affected by HD and their loved ones. HD is something that has touched my life and I am hoping that I can raise awareness and funds to give back to this amazing cause.
Alternatively the Isle of Man branch of the HD charity has recently been granted official charity status. If you would like to donate so that the money can go directly to those affected on the island please let me know and I can let you know how to donate. All my offline donations will go to HD Isle of Man.
We are hoping to be able to keep everyone updated with our progress via Facebook, Instagram and via our blog theviewfromthepct.wordpress.com
