ICYE-UK sends volunteers to live and work in communities worldwide where they learn new skills and make a real difference to peoples' lives. It aims to promote peace and cultural understanding through the exchange of people and skills.

Story

I'm volunteering in Uganda for 6 months from January next year with Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE)!

For anyone who read my blog posts or spoke to me about my trip to Sierra Leone last year, this probably won't come as a surprise. Three months in Sierra Leone was absolutely amazing but it also gave me the 'bug' to volunteer again! I've chosen to go to Uganda this time, the 'pearl of Africa', with a fantastic charity called ICYE. I'll be volunteering with a grassroots development organisation and living with a host family.

I was very fortunate to receive a bursary from the trustees of ICYE, in return for becoming an ambassador for the charity. However, I'm also planning lots of fundraising events over the next six months to help me reach my target. I'd be so grateful if you could contribute any amount, however small, as it really does make a difference towards my target! Also, if you want to help me out with any ideas or events I'm planning, I'm all ears!

Thanks a million! :D

Emma

P.S. If you are a UK taxpayer, please include GiftAid on your donation - ICYE can claim it back directly and a third of the GiftAid from my donations will go towards my programme fee!
