Story
So.....I've decided to take up running....stop laughing!
I will be running the Big Fun Run in Leeds on the 14th August 2010 - its a 5k run and I'm hoping to be able to run most ifnot all of it by that time! Visit my blog to see how I'lm getting on.
I will be running on behalf of the GBS Support Group. I'm sure not many of you will have heard of Gullain-Barre Syndrome, which I lost my Grandma to in 2006. It is an acute disease of the peripheral nervous system in which the nerves in the arms and legs become inflamed and stop working. This causes sudden weakness leading to limb paralysis, and a loss of sensation, sometimes with pain. In a quarter of cases the paralysis progresses up the chest and the patient is unable to breathe on his or her own and needs to rely on a ventilator. The throat and face may be affected making swallowing impossible and so the patient needs to be fed by tube up the nose or directly into the stomach.
The GBS Support Group do great work to help those who suffer from GBS and also their families. When my Grandma was in hospital they came to visit; to explain and to support. In this way, and by funding research into GBS, they are an extremely worthy charity and I hope that you will sponsor me to help fund their valuable work.
In loving memory of my Grandma Betty,
Snegorca xx
