Migraine is the most common and disabling neurological disorder in the UK, which affects 1 in 7 people. The Migraine Trust is the only research and support charity for people affected by migraine in the UK. We fund and promote research, provide support and information, and campaign for change.

Story

NEXT EVENT: LONDON DUATHLON - 9.9.12 As I want to cycle with Croydon Cyclists on the 8th, I have decided to do only the fun 5km/10km/5km. My other excuse is that I need gears for this event, without a doubt!! Next year, for a more challenging event....

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thanks to all of you who have generously sponsored me so far.

11.8.12 - I've just completed 70 hours of work for England Hockey Board at the Olympic Park during the Olympics....I haven't run anywhere and I've only been cycling 3-4 miles per day. I need to start training again ;-)

17th July - I'm trying to do the running / cycling combo...but invariably my wish to cycle is greater than to run so I only seemed to have cycled. Twice very recently I have cycled round Richmond Park which is where the London Duathlon is taking place:

There's a killer hill, or at least it's a killer on a singlespeed road bike and now I'm wondering whether I could manage the 40km without gears.....

8th July - What a wet morning, but actually it was probably better than boiling sunshine. According to my watch I ran it in 58.15 which I'm pleased with. Official time - 57:55! Although my left hamstring aches a little, I feel tired and I can't stop eating I found that I ran it quite comfortably. Maybe I'm finally becoming a runner!

Next up - the London Duathlon (9th September) where I hope to do the Classic event - 10km run - 40km cycle - 5km run. I'm keeping this page open so that you can still donate to The Migraine Trust.

24th June - the weather is conspiring against me! I have no problem cycling in the rain, but running? Forget it, especially as most of my training is done as part of my commute and I have to get on a train. Not nice for others if I'm wet!

10th June, I've just run a timed 10k through local parks. It took 62 minutes, but at least 4k of that was trail paths. I'm hoping that my time will be faster on the day!

I have suffered from migraines since I was 10 but thankfully they are mild and infrequent attacks. I come from a family of migraine sufferers - mum, son, cousins, aunts and uncles - so the genetic link is obvious!

Migraine is the most common neurological condition in the world yet most sufferers experience negative response from non-sufferers, teachers, employers etc. It isn't just a headache - in fact taking my medication immediately at the onset of a migraine generally prevents a headache, nausea and vomiting, but it doesn't stop the aura where my field of vision becomes patchy and zigzags of flashing lights occur. It doesn't prevent the pins and needles and sometimes it doesn't prevent the incoherent speech. If I didn't carry the medication with me at all times I would suffer all the mentioned symptoms and it would take 2-3 days to recover. It's a debilitating condition. I'm lucky as my medication works reasonably effectively but for millions nothing works, and I can include my son amongst them. For some it is so disabling that it is impossible to be employed because of their high level of absenteeism.

So please dig deep and sponsor me and help support the Migraine Trust who do outstanding work for migraine sufferers.
