Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer. Founded in 1974, by growing our register of stem cell donors, conducting research and supporting patients, Anthony Nolan cures blood cancer and blood disorders. But we need to do more. Without you, there is no cure.

Story

I'm travelling to South America on the 13th September to hike the famous Inca Trail trek, and climbing Machu Picchu.

The trek spans over a week;  sleeping rough in the mountines, eating basic food, and walking upto 8 hours a day reaching altatudes of 2300 meters, to reach Machu Picchu. This is very far from a holiday!

'I was inspired to start fundraising when I heard of a little boy called Ronny, who was battling rare form of Leukemia. So Close to home and so young, I could only begin to imagine what it would be like for his family.'

'I was planning on hiking the inka trail this year any way, but I got to thinking how much better the expeireance would be, not to mention the motivation it would give me to complete it, if I sponsored a charity or some one in need. Every penny raised is going straight to the charity's'

This is where your donated money goes......

Over the past 35 years, The Anthony Nolan Trust has saved thousands of lives by matching the right donors to people in need of a stem cell transplant. They are the most successful stem cell register in the UK but for every person they help, there’s another who misses that chance. That’s why they need to expand, grow the register and raise the funds to put their ambitious vision into action. Your money will help them to try and save each and every life.

Since they first began the register in 1974, they have come a long way. From only a handful of staff and donors, theyhave now got around 171 staff and over 400,000 people on the register. Shirley Nolan’s tireless fundraising made it possible for them to move to their first official laboratory in 1978. Since then, with help from the Round Table they are able to grow the register and build their research institute in 1993. Fusing science and research with thier work has been an invaluable part of helping to save more lives. They cemented this by opening the UK’s first dedicated cord blood bank in 2008, expanding the ways in which we can provide transplants.

As an independent charity, they rely on financial support from individuals and organisations. The funds you donate and help raise go directly towards helping to save lives. Here’s the breakdown:

For every one pound they spend:

  • 74p goes to help save lives, recruiting donors and providing transplants for people in desperate need.

  • 14p goes towards raising more money, including our fundraising activities, to help us do even more for the  future.

  • 7p goes to our research to help make their transplants even more successful

  • 4p goes on their education programmes

  • 1p goes on their governance
