Anna Kyte decided to spend some time in Egypt to relax and enjoy the sun. She found herself an apartment and settled in. Next door lived an Egyptian man who owned a dog...Husky.

Husky lived on the balcony chained by a 1 meter long chain onto the railings. He had no water, was fed on scraps when the owner was around, no bed, no shelter from the blistering midday sun and the only attention he received was from the local kids teasing him. Husky was in living hell.

Despite all of the pain that man had inflicted on this dog, he still wagged his tail and never showed an ounce of aggression when Anna started to pay him attention. Slowly he put on weight and started to enjoy life again as Anna and her partner Mika walked and fed him every day. Husky thought he'd gone to heaven when he was hosed down with cold water! It was decided that Egypt was no place for a Husky x German Shepard. Even in the right hands it was too hot for him so they decided to bring him back to England and find him a home!

Whilst out on a walk with Husky a street dog came to say hello to Husky. Anna and Mika had met this dog before and knew that she was friendly...so friendly that she followed them all the way home! Initially they thought she was after Husky but when they put Husky back on his chain and went inside she sat on the doorstep whining! After an hour they gave in and let her in to the flat and immediately she made herself at home! They bathed and fed her and she curled up on the rug for 12hours! Sandy had chosen her home.

For the following couple of weeks Anna and Mika were busy walking and feeding Husky and Sandy and planning how they were going to bring them to England. It was not going to be easy. I applied for their licences and quarantine in England whilst they tried to organise flights and travel crates. Just trying to find a crate was a nightmare! On top of trying to bring the two dogs back Mika had applied for a visa to visit England with Anna. As part of the application process they had to both go to Cairo, which meant leaving the dogs. They organised for someone to look after Sandy and had to leave Husky with his owner. They weren't happy about leaving them but they had no choice.

When Anna and Mika returned a few days later from Cairo they were desperate to check on the dogs. As they approached the apartment there was no sign of Husky. They knocked on the door but no answer. A neighbour then came out and said that the man had been evicted and had moved near to the beach. They then went to go and collect Sandy from the man who was looking after her. Once again there was no sign of Sandy. The man said she had run away the day before. They were devastated.

After some research they got hold of a contact number for Husky’s owner. When they spoke to him he confirmed he was living near the beach, which was about a 40minute walk away, and that he wanted £1000 for Husky. This was ridiculous and Anna said exactly that but offered to still walk Husky. The man said no, so Anna had no way of finding Husky other than walking around the beach area in hope of bumping into him and possibly finding Sandy.

Anna started the long walks in the scorching sun. On the first day she only walked up the road and a very happy Sandy came bounding up to her! Anna was over the moon that Sandy was ok and so Sandy joined the search for Husky. Sandy wouldn't leave Anna's side.

Unfortunately the search wasn't going well and the clock was ticking, as in 3 days both dogs were due to fly and they both had to have vet checks before leaving. It was so frustrating knowing that he wasn't far away but just couldn't be found. Then, when Anna opened her front door Husky was sat there waiting on the step! He went bonkers with excitement! He was extremely thin but at least he was alive! It turns out that he had been waiting around the apartment for 3hours. He still had the chain around his neck and it appeared to be quite rusty so it had snapped and he headed home! It's amazing that he found his way back as he had only been walked back from the beach once and it took a good 40 minutes! Husky knew he had a plane to catch!

For the next 3 days Anna had to keep Husky in hiding which was quite a challenge! Luckily the vet which checked the dogs over wasn't very interested and signed them both as fit and well so they could fly! The experience Anna and Mika went through at Sharm el sheikh and Cairo airport was horrendous but eventually the dogs made the long journey to England and ended up at Lady Haye kennels.

Both Sandy and Husky had to have various injections and a health check where Sandy was found to be pregnant! A few weeks later she gave birth to 6 puppies, one was still born but the other 5 were very healthy! All the staff at Lady Haye kennels worked extremely hard to look after all the pups and they have all now found perfect homes. Husky has a home ready for him in Bognor with a lovely couple but Sandy is still looking for a home. They finally come out of quarantine on the 17th of April. I wish that we had the money and space to keep them but unfortunately we already have 3 rescue dogs.

So what started out as just a simple one dog rescue...turned into 7 dogs!....and husky was the dad!

Lots of people think that we are mad for spending so much time, money and heart ache on some foreign dogs that we aren't even keeping for ourselves but my reply is that these two dogs looked to us for help. We had the choice to turn a blind eye and push the responsibility onto someone else....but who was there? They would've died. For the sake of a bit of hard work and money, seven dogs will now live happy lives...and we can sleep at night knowing that we made the right choice. Please help us by donating what you can. Thank you for your support
