My name is Emma and I'm hoping to raise £500 in aid of Cancer Research - one of the worlds most common killers.

Having watched my grandad suffer with cancer - from his diagnosis through to him passing away - it's an awful, awful way to lose your life...

As a mother of 3 children, and a smoker - I am all too aware of the damage I am doing to my body and the increased risks I am taking of developing the disease and the possibility that my children might one day, have to witness me suffer with this.

1 in 3 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime - some may live to tell the tale, others will not.

My aim is to reach a target of £500, hopefully to surpass this, so that I can make a small contribution in the race to find a cure, or at least to develop new treatments, which can prolong someone's life and/or rid them of the disease in many cases.

On the 1st November 2010 I plan to shave my glossy red lock off, fully, in memory of my grandad and also in recognition of all those currently fighting the battle with cancer and those who've lost theirs, and their families. 

From the 1st October 2010, I plan to give up smoking for good - for my own health, that of my children and again, in recognition of those who are currently fighting the battle and those who have passed.

After many unsuccessful attempts, I really want to give up for good this time and I feel seeing the donations pour in will really motivate me and keep me going.
