Story
On 16th November, I'm participating in the Glack Attack to raise money for SAMH. The Glack Attack is a 5KM obstacle mud run held on Glack Hill, navigating through the hill's forests and bogs. "It is a hard earned 5KM of running, crawling, paddling and whatever you need to do to survive the attack and get over the finish line!"
Having previously worked for SAMH, I can honestly say it's such a worthwhile cause and I know this charity is truly making a difference to the lives of those who need the support. Not only does SAMH provide community based services for over 3000 people, they also deliver a variety of national programmes campaigning for mental health awareness (e.g anti-stigma and suicide prevention).
£5 Could help our National Information Service provide life changing information and support to people living with mental health problems.
£10 Isolation can contribute to poor mental health. £10 can help us reach people experiencing mental health difficulties, who have no support around them.
£20 Could help us provide a wide range of mental health and wellbeing events - from guided walks to mindfulness classes - in one of our resource centres.
£50 Getting together, sharing experiences and working as a group can help people's recovery. £50 provides creative materials like art or photography equipment to use in our groupwork sessions.
£100 Coming to terms with trauma such as childhood sexual abuse is profoundly distressing. £100 enables us to provide intensive therapeutic support to people who have had experiences - helping them to come to terms with emotional effects and move on.
£250 In Scotland two people lose their life to suicide every day. £250 helps provide training in suicide prevention, giving people the skills to help someone in crisis.
£1000 Often family members or friends are the main carers of people at risk of suicide. A donation of this size could help us set up support groups across Scotland for people concerned about loved ones at risk of suicde.
So, please, please, please if you are able to spare a few pennies (no matter how little or large), I would be extremely grateful! I have never done anything like this in my life (EEK)...but I'm going to be like a happy little pig in the mud if I meet this target!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D
