<p>I am doing the Great North Run for the 1st time this year. I am running for the meningitis trust, after my son Nathan, was seriously ill&nbsp;when he was 4 years old&nbsp;with meningococcal (meningitis and septicemia) It took 13 consultants, 22 hours to diagnose what was wrong with him, as it is rare. luckily they started to treat him straight away as i was told if i was half an hour later to the hospital, Nathan wouldn't be here now. People who do survive this are usually left with loss of limbs or hearing. We are very lucky Nathan made a full recovery. Our family has been hit by meningitis twice, when my nephew also had it when he was 7 weeks old. so please give what you can, as this could effect anyone of us.
