Hello..Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to help raise money for a charity I feel very strongly about. KALAYAAN  - helps to get justice for Migrant Domestic Workers.

I have struggled with my increasing weight for a while now but when I put it in perspective with what these people go through I feel utterly ashamed. I am aiming to lose at least 2 stone by Christmas 2010. I would really appreciate it if you could donate not only to help encourage me but more importantly to help some of these people that have been through such terrible things. Sometimes we forget how lucky we really are in life!

Kalayaan was established in 1987, it is the only organization in the UK to provide advice and support services for migrant domestic workers. Kalayaan registers approximately 350 new migrant domestic workers each year. They are NOT involved in helping people to come to the UK from another country. Migrant domestic workers are people who have entered the UK legally with an employer on a domestic worker visa to work in a private household.

Some of these people have to make heart draining decisions to become a migrant domestic worker in the first place. Some can be in life or death situations where they either have to leave their family / children (to earn money to support them and survive), or alternatively stay with them and die.  

Being a migrant domestic worker can lead them into a life of being degraded and mistreated in unthinkable ways. Some of the stories I have heard have truly disturbed me for days. They face physical, psychological and sexual abuse, discrimination, low pay and ridiculously long hours.

Still today some migrant domestic workers, for diplomats are not protected… this is a major human rights failure by the government.

This happens all around the world and it sickens me. What makes some people with money and power think that they can treat other human beings this way!?

THESE PEOPLE ARE BEING TREATED AS SLAVES AND IT MUST STOP !!!
