The Neil Desai Foundation was set up to support causes dear to Neil Desai who sadly passed away aged 22. The Charity aims to promote education and sports amongst the young, help the poor and needy in developing countries and invest in the prevention of cardiac fatalities in the young.

Story

Well, it is done. As of 5pm last Saturday, we are officially one of the mad souls to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro from the 9th – 14th August 2010. At 5,895m, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth’s crust. This insanity was brought about thanks to a moment of madness when we decided to push ourselves out of our comfort zones in the name of charity. Sense of achievement, beautiful scenery, group bonding…be damned. Altitude sickness, headaches, using a pot as a toilet for 6 days, wearing the same clothes and sweating like no others...yep, that’s the reality.

Also, may we add, we are not athletes, not at all! To be fit for human integration we need at least 8 hours sleep, our morning coffee and a pile of sugar to keep us going. The training regime for the climb starts NOW, the challenge has already begun.

But this madness is not for nothing, we are going to be training and climbing as a way of raising money for both the Neil Desai Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

The Neil Desai foundation is a personal charity to Emma and one that Paula holds very close. Neil died unexpectedly and suddenly on the 5th September 2008; his 22nd birthday. With his infectious personality, incredible talent, huge smile and love of life Neil showed many the way. The Neil Desai Foundation is a charitable organisation created by Neil's family and friends to support many of the causes that were important to him, namely Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and Sports in the Community/Schools and Academic Achievement. If you would like to know more please visit www.neildesai.org.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Like several of you reading this, we know many people who suffer from cancer and are keen to assist in the fight against it. It is a disease that Paula’s Grandfather lost to after a 10-year battle, and one that Emma holds very close.

PLEASE help us to make THE CLIMB worthwhile, and in the words of many, ‘make a difference’ and sponsor us! On your part, it’s quick and easy. THANKS!
