Hadrian's Wall Trekking Challenge · 6 July 2018
So, I reached the 50th birthday this year (wonders will never cease!) and I needed a challenge and this one sounded good. Obviously I have to drag the daughter along with me AND I am making her share a tent with me too - which will probably end up being more of a challenge than the actual trekking!
We are doing this for Matthew's Friends, the charity that our Matthew inspired. We want to raise funds to put more patients on medical ketogenic dietary therapies for their complex epilepsy, giving them hope of a better life, with fewer (or no) seizures. Matthew has a catastrophic seizure syndrome called Dravet Syndrome and the Ketogenic Diet has been the ONLY thing that has helped him. It literally saved his life and I really don't want to think what would have happened if he did not get the diet when he did.
He is profoundly disabled, BUT, he is happy and enjoys his life whilst still living at home with his mum, surrounded by loving family, friends and carers. He really does have a great life now. Matthew can't walk... so Alice and I will do it for him to raise funds for his charity to benefit others and give them a great life too.
