As many of you are aware, our daughter Gabriella was diagnosed as being deaf when she wasn't even one month old! As devastating as this was initially to deal with, we can not express the amount of joy she has brought to our entire family. Now at 8 months old, she is developing very normally as you would expect a baby of her age...thanks to our sheer determination and through the support of organisations like DELTA.
DELTA (Deaf Education through Listening and Talking) believes that the vast majority of deaf children can learn to listen and talk and that all parents of deaf children should be given this option. It's aim is to promote the education of hearing imparied children through the use of their residual hearing capacity and through the development of a naturally spoken language.
Since we caught Gabriella's hearing problems early on, she has a great chance of speaking and communicating with little or no disability later on in life.
