in 2008/09, of 340 new domestic workers registered with Kalayaan, 68% said they were ‘on-call’ 24 hours a day; 58% reported psychological abuse; 43% had no personal space and slept in the hall or kitchen; 17% reported physical violence, and 6% reported sexual assault. Many MDWs have been trafficked into the country and paid little or nothing. to read a bit about migrant domestic workers and the work that we do with them.
NKLC works with Kalayaan to help these workers access justice in the employment tribunals and in the courts, such that they might end repetitive cycles of abuse and exploitation and rebuild their lives. NKLC benefits from very limited sources of funding and private support has a very significant impact on its ability to support these vulnerable clients. All including the smallest donations will be gratefully received.
With many thanks in advance NKLC Triathlon Team
