Miss Enid Corker will once again travel to Nepal to undertake a fund raising trek for The Mercian Regiment Benevolent Fund.  Having already trekked to Everest Base Camp to celebrate her 70 birthday and raise funds for the charity, Enid is keen to continue her fundraising efforts.

Enid is flying to Kathmandu on 26 April.  Three days later she will fly to the airstrip at Lukla, which is 2880 metres above sea level.  Her trek will now begin and over the next 3 days she will climb up to Dole, 4000 metres! 

By 5 May she will have reached Gokyo (4794 metres) before descending to the moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. Two days later she will have climbed to 5496 metres at Gokgo Ri for more superb mountain views.  Enid will descend the Dudh Kosi Valley and over the next four days will see a monastery, yak herders huts, villages before climbing her next peak, Chhukuag Ri, a staggering 5550 metres above sea level.

After a second descent, she will trek along the Khumbu Glacier to an overnight lodge in Gorah Shep.  By 16 May she will ascend Kala Patlar at 5,600 metres. It is largely downhill thereafter on the return to Lukla and then the flight back to Kathmandu.

THE MERCIAN REGIMENT BENEVOLENCE CHARITY

The Mercian Regiment Benevolence Charity supports our soldiers and veterans by providing relief, either generally or individually, to serving or retired, past or present members of the Regiment, and to their families and dependants.  It supports all those who find themselves in, ‘need, hardship or distress’, by making grants of money or by paying for items, services or facilities.  The Charity works in conjunction with other service charities such as the ABF The Soldiers Charity and the Royal British Legion and last year alone the Charity spent over £87, 960.00 on more than three hundred different cases.  Serving officers and soldiers voluntary donate a days pay each year to help support the Regiment’s work.
