As you can see folks we have already gone beyond the initial target but please keep the donations coming. The intention was always to continue the fundraising & continue to look to develop the facilities at the local hospital. Keep supporting us. We have a race night in the Devorgilla on Sat night (24th Sept) to raise more & more events will follow, watch this space x

We are raising funds to improve the equipment held in the Dumfries Royal Infirmary Children’s Ward so that they can video and record children as they have seizures. With so many complex types of Epilepsy it can be difficult to diagnose and such equipment will be very useful and will result in quicker diagnosis, hopefully saving unnecessary trips to Glasgow’s Yorkhill Hospital or Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital, not to mention panic and an anxious wait for parents having to return home with children to try and record episodes themselves.
This is very close to our hearts as my little lad Jak was diagnosed at 3 years old with Epilepsy. He has complex partial seizures and we now know his Epilepsy is Intractable (untreatable with medication) so we now explore Brain Surgery at Great Ormond Street. Jak is a happy, bright and social 7 year old now who copes amazingly with his seizures and carries on in mainstream school as a popular member of his class. He can have months of “normality” where he has no seizures at all and lives life like any other healthy 7 year old. Unfortunately, we then have clusters of seizures which can last months where Jak will drop at our feet 20-30 times daily and will also seizure right through the night; his independence disappears as we constantly follow him to try and prevent injury and normality becomes engulfed in a nightmare. We have learnt quickly that there are so many types of seizures and children are affected in so many ways and we want to help the Children’s Ward to have more equipment to allow quicker, local diagnosis for other families in Dumfries who may in the future go through a similar situation. This is where we hope you can help us.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. They send the money direct to the Charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed.
Thank you.
Julie Milligan, friends and family :)
