I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon (London) to raise funds for the charity Build African on Sunday 13th October 2019.
Build Africa believes in the power of education to help end poverty. They work in remote and rural communities providing vital support to local schools and families. They ensure vulnerable children stay in education by building much needed infrastructure, and assist local communities by creating sustainable opportunities out of poverty.
In June 2016, I was part of a wonderful team of work colleagues that were given an opportunity by our company Euroclear to travel to Kalengo in Uganda to see the impact and also help out in a practical way with the work done by the charity Build Africa in conjunction with Euroclear. Just being there was a life changing experience and I will externally be grateful for this opportunity. It really hits you just to realise how one’s generosity goes a long long way to change a life for good. Faces and voices of contented gratitude are still imprinted in my memories. It brought an enhanced sense of appreciation at the work undertaken by Build Africa in building safe classrooms, boreholes and boosting local economies through Village Savings and Loans groups; the very basics of micro-economics that give families sustainable opportunities out of poverty. It meant so much to me being a beneficially of education and the doors it opens. It was humbling to inspire young people to strive out of their situations and aim for the stars.
I am wholeheartedly pleased to take part in this half marathon to help raise money to further help Build Africa continue this amazing work.
