Story
Hi, my name is Erica Noone. Myself and my friend Laura MacLeod have set up this page to help us to raise £7600.00. We have agreed to trek the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu to raise money for MND Scotland. When raising money for charity people usually choose a particular charity because they know someone who is connected with the charity, usually through illness or disease. Our story is no different. My husband Mark was diagnosed with MND in November 2008 and sadly passed away in November 2010.
THE TOTAL AMOUNT WHICH NEEDS TO BE RAISED OBVIOUSLY INCLUDES THE COST OF THE TRIP FOR LAURA AND MYSELF, HOWEVER, WE ARE FUNDING OUR OWN TRIP, THEREFORE ALL MONEY DONATED FOR THIS CHALLENGE GOES DIRECTLY TO MND SCOTLAND
What is Motor Neurone Disease?
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is the name given to a related group of diseases which destroy the motor nerves (neurones) in the body. Symptoms vary, but among them, MND can cause paralysis, impair speech, and cause eating and drinking difficulties. As MND progresses, the motor neurones of the body are gradually damaged. This blocks the stimulating signals from the brain reaching the muscles, causing them to weaken.
There is no cure for MND and it is always fatal!
Laura and I met a few years ago through mutal friends at a mother and toddler group. Laura has supported me with fundraising, along with many other friends and family members and has now agreed to trek the Inca Trail with me! I think it was actually her idea originally, so all the blame lies with her!!
Please, please, please support us in any way you can, even a pound or two now and again over the next year will certainly help us reach our target!
Thanks in advance!
Erica & Laura
