Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Erin was born on 28th February 2010. As it would have been her 1st birthday this year we have decided to commemorate this by trying to raise money for Action on Pre Eclampsia through fund raising or if people would like to donate as a birthday gift.
Our Story (as brief as we could): At a routine ante natal appointment, I was given the devastating news that I had severe pre eclampsia and that I would not be leaving the hospital without having my baby.
Pre-eclampsia is a progressive condition so the doctors were only able to hold off for 5 days before it got too dangerous for me & Erin.
We were so scared as there was only a small chance she would survive the birth and on a practical level we had not yet been to any ante natal classes or read the labour part of the books yet! I was induced and had a natural birth at exactly 25 weeks. Against all odds Erin was born alive weighing a tiny 520g.
Pre-eclampsia restricts the growth so she was smaller than she should have been for her gestation but bigger than the doctors thought she would be. Our brave, tiny girl fought to survive for 9 days before we had to say goodbye. She was perfect in everyway.
We are aiming to do several things throughout the year to raise money but will keep you updated.
We have chosen this charity as research is needed to know what causes pre-eclampsia and hopefully to find a way to treat or prevent it so it does not take any more lives; mums or babies.
We lost our beautiful baby girl to this horrible illness and if we can help prevent any other families from going through the same suffering we have to try with your help.
"Every year in the UK about 500-600 babies die because of pre-eclampsia – many of these as a consequence of premature delivery rather than the disease itself. Some six mothers die each year from complications of pre-eclampsia in the UK."
