Reading Half Marathon 2012 · 1 April 2012 ·

We are the UK’s leading autism research charity. Our mission is to create breakthroughs that enable all autistic people to live happier, healthier, longer lives. We do this by funding research, shaping policy and working with autistic people to understand their needs.

Story

On April Fool's Day , the Eskander brothers (Sameh, Meenah and George) will be running the Reading Half Marathon in the most ridiculous fancy dress...a foam gingerbread man outfit! And if that weren't enough, we're aiming to complete it in less than 2 hours! Is it possible?

Well, back in 2008, together, we managed to raise well over £2000 for the British Red Cross and other charities running the Great North Run in a business suit. This was the beginning of our journey to raise money for amazing charities we feel passionate about.

Alongside this, we've hitchhiked 2000 miles through Europe on a £15 budget, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa) and ran various other half marathons all in support for many different charities.

We know that impossible is nothing. We want to raise a huge amount of money for our selected charities: Autistica and Children's Trust Tadworth.

Simply put, Autistica are a charity dedicated to biomedical research that will bring benefits to individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders. Autism is one of the most significant but least researched developmental disorders and Autistica has set itself the task of achieving major breakthroughs within ten years. Amazing right?

The exact causes of autism are only now beginning to be understood. Autistica is bringing us that one step closer to understanding autism, and helping lead to more effective interventions and treatments.

Just remember, Britain has a prevalence rate of autism of around 1 in 100 in children. Autism affects people of all racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Children's Trust Tadworth provides care, education and therapy to children and young people with multiple disabilities and health needs. They run the largest rehabilitation centre for children with acquired brain injuries (ABI).

If you feel as passionately about this amazing charity and the incredible work they are doing, please please donate now. A small gesture from you will make a world of difference to those who are affected.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
