Story

Hello There!

First, please let me thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Thank you also, not only for your support of the forthcoming pain and suffering of my first ever10k run but also, and more importantly, for the contribution you are about to make to the excellent work of Depression Alliance. So;

To make a donation

1. Just press the donate button and follow the instructions

2. Feel free to leave any message of encouragement (or abuse) as you see fit

To Play the “Predict My Time” Game

1.   Donate your chosen amount by pressing the donate button

2.   Predict times in which you think I might cross the finish line (one prediction for every £2 you donate)

3.   In the comments box list your predictions. I will collect them from there and put them in my Prediction Grid

To Win

1.   The winner of the game (and the bottle) will be the person whose guess is nearest to my official time
2.   If you predict a time that has already been taken, I will allocate you the next available quicker time
3.   The winner of each runner’s Prediction Grid will go into a prize draw to win a case of Champagne

My Current Form

So in a spirit of fairness and in an effort to be of some help to your forecasting dilemma, I will let you know that the current men's world record for 10k on the road is 26 minutes and 44 seconds! I am informed by my son Ben, who considers himself to be a bit of an authority in these matters, that I have one or two justifiable reasons (eighteen and a half stone of them) for believing that this will NOT be the event in which I will be troubling the statisticians. I am also advised by the race organisers that they will be sweeping anyone who has not completed the course within two hours, off the streets!... Frankly, your guess is as good as mine!

How will the money raised be spent?

The money we are raising will go to resourcing a national network of support aimed at ending the loneliness and isolation experienced as either a result or as the cause of depression. It is still a greatly stigmatised illness that affects nearly 15 million people throughout the UK. We will all know someone who has been, is now or will be a sufferer of this life-crippling, sometimes fatal condition.

Often going undiagnosed, it destroys families, careers, businesses and lives. It can be caused by a single trauma and is no respecter of age, gender or status in life. It is often impossible to recognise, even in those with whom we are closest, until it is too late. Yet Depression Alliance's successfully completed, three-year pilot project has shown that it can be so different. By ending the need for any depression sufferer to be alone, it has successfully and sustainably turn this statistic on its head.

So your contribution really will help save lives!

Whether you are playing the game or just making a donation, doing so through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Again many thanks for your support.

Good Luck!

Warmest Wishes

Eugene

In August 2016, Depression Alliance merged with Mind, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Money you donate here will be used exclusively for services previously run by Depression Alliance, e.g. Friends in Need.
