Just over three years ago I was rushed into hospital - suspected cauda equina syndrome after suffering problems for quite a few years.  I was discharged after scans and test but even the smallest of steps was painful and to try and sit after standing was unbearable.

I was offered a wheelchair and an adapted wet room but I was having none of it!  - I chose my legs and since then I have embarked on intensive physical rehab - on 01.04.14 I completed this and now have the go ahead to  start interval/endurance training.

I have said goodbye to the morphine and array of medication I was taking and worked hard to make myself strong again.  A wheelchair PFT, I LOVE MY LEGS and these legs and feet were made for walking!

I received the results from my bone density scan and other tests and yes I have war wounds and old age is creeping in (OA) but I have the all clear to really train now! I have to be mindful of the Prinzmetal Angina I have suffered from since being 29 but I am healthier than I have ever been and getting stronger every day!

My training ground, The Pennines has been wonderful and although I will be walking the moors a lot over the coming months I have had my sights set further afield over the last year or so - The Lake District and beyond.

I was a victim of domestic violence and abuse for over 21 years which left me suffering from agoraphobia, my bedroom was my sanctuary.

Something wonderful happened as I began to venture out again in a hope of gaining back a part of my life that had been missing for so long - I began to fall in love with the outdoors and finally found inner peace.  As I trained, getting stronger and stronger each time I realised that finally I had indeed completed the cycle - I am no longer a victim, I am no longer a survivor, I AM A THRIVER! My hand still shakes sometimes as I reach for the door but once I am out there I just don't want to stop!  Whilst I saunter I think :)

And so over the next few months I will be climbing as many mountains as I can and walking as many miles as my feet will take me for Refuge Charity.

EVE'S MOUNTAINS & MILES CHALLENGE

The challenge will finish on the 30th August with the last climb to the summit of Scafell Pike, the largest mountain in England where I will place a piece of copper on the cairn - copper for justice for ALL victims.  I am not doing this climb alone I will be joined by a fab group of people, other survivors, professionals and every day folk - I am hoping it is going to be an awesome day with lots of money raised for charities.

I am under no illusions - this summer challenge is going to be tough and painful (I have stenosis) and I am going to need a lot of preparation and training to complete this and start to look after ME a little better :)  Raising money for the wonderful Refuge Charity will really spurn me on and push me to realise my dream and complete this challenge and so I hope you will donate and support not only myself but Refuge Charity too.

£1, £2 - whatever you can afford and I have something else to ask of you :)

I am being accompanied on my mountain saunters, as previously mentioned by some very fab people - survivors of domestic violence and child abuse, professionals, every day folk, would you like to join me? - You could also raise money for your favourite charity - I could do with the company its a long walk. :) See sauntering dates below.....

With government cut backs our services need as much money as they can get - just think hours of chatting and making new friends whilst we reach our goal and raise money and awareness for our causes.

The dates:  16th June - Snaefell Isle Of Man - 28th June PenYFan & Corn Du, 26th July Snowden, and the final climb of my summer saunter 30th August, Scafell Pike!!!

As I am walking I am also raising awareness and spreading the #SAFE message as I chat to people along the way, I hope I can also spread some smiles.

I will also be climbing Snaefell Mountain with some awesome folk - the Isle Of Man Police Dogs and their Handlers, Prison Officer Keith with Edd and Oscar, the Isle Of Man Search and Rescue Team with their dogs, Chief Constable Gary Roberts and his Command Team and Paula from Isle Of Man Victims Support.  Paula has very kindly offered to host me whilst in the IOM and I am also getting to visit the prison!

PENyFAN & CORN DU - sauntering with the wonderful Cymorth Cymru and Sheila from Minister Carl Sargeant's office.

I will regularly provide updates, a diary on my website/blog & include photographs on my Facebook etc. I also have the Strava app (any walks from my home will of course have the GPS/Map kept private but Jim Gamble QPM/CEO Ineqe has agreed to authenticate my saunters if need be - Jim will be the only person to have my #SAFE address. :))

An update of miles and mountains covered is available to view on my website where you can also read more about my work, OneVoice Never Silenced, Eve's Law and #SAFE

I AM HAVING A BALL! THERE IS LIFE AFTER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - TRUST ME!!! :)))

I hope you will join me on one of my saunters
