Story

Donations in memory of Roger may be made to Medécins San Frontières. This charity has been chosen to reflect Roger’s lifelong commitment to humanitarian values together with his passionate interest in world affairs and medical sciences. 

Friends and relatives have generously donated £935 directly to Medécins San Frontières and £310 via Peter Taylor, funeral directors.  £582.40 was donated in the retiring collection at Roger's funeral. He would have been so pleased.

Roger was:

  • Born Woodford, Essex on February 29 1936.
  • Son of Methodist missionaries stationed in China.
  • Escaped with his mother and brother, Adrian, as the Japanese invaded China.
  • Educated in England at Kingswood School and university.
  • Two years National Service in the RAF.
  • Married Marion on July 16 1966.
  • Twin sons, Hedley and Caspar born 1971.
  • Caspar married to Victoria – three children, Celeste, Meredith, Jocasta.
  • Hedley married to Claudia – one child, Oscar.
  • Steward and reader in Norwich cathedral.
  • Worked as a teacher and lecturer, latterly at Norwich City College.
  • Sportsman, traveller, reader, school governor, award winning bee keeper, theatregoer.
