On March 21st The Prospect Hospice is holding a Skydiving event and I foolishly agreed to take part in memory of Liana’s beloved sister Lisa, who passed away on the 29th October 2009. Liana thought that her sister would have found it quite entertaining if we jumped out of perfectly working plane at 10,000 feet to raise money for the hospice, hence the theme of the day being Sister Act 3- The Holy Plummet. The climb to altitude takes approximately 20 minutes, followed by the freefall of 30 seconds at which point I pray the parachute will bring us back safely to solid ground. (Please feel free to have the champagne on ice for our landing!).
Being diagnosed with a serious illness does not mean all that is ‘normal’ and familiar disappears, but for many people extra help and support is needed as they come to terms with the questions and uncertainties that inevitably come with such a diagnosis.
Prospect Hospice’s dedicated end of care last year reached more than 1,400 people living with cancer and other serious conditions in Swindon, north Wiltshire, and also in Fairford and Lechlade in Gloucestershire. They care for people in their own homes, in care homes, at the and at the Hospice in Wroughton. They support their families and friends, too
Prospect Hospice is a registered charity and they receive just 26% of their income from statutory organisations such as the NHS. This means that they must raise more than £4.5 million each year to continue providing the free care their community relies on.
The Prospect Hospice took fantastic care of Liana’s
sister and her family towards the end of her illness, by providing not only medical/nursing support but a myriad of support services that helped all of them throughout
So please help me raise these much needed funds to ensure that The Prospect can continue their excellent work!
