Story
12th Aug update - Back home and I am now AN OUTLAW!
A fantastic day & I'm delighted to say that I managed to complete the event in 13h52m......highlights will be on Sky in a couple of weeks.
Always one to rise to a challenge I somehow find myself on the start list for The Outlaw Triathlon on August 8th 2010. This is an Ironman distance triathlon which incorporates the following;
Swim - 2.4 mile
Bike - 112 miles
Run - 26.2 miles
I've run a few marathons in the past and also competed in a couple of triathlons last year but nothing of this magnitude and it's fair to say that it will be the most difficult physical challenge I've taken on (there is a 17 hour cutoff for the event).
The purpose of doing this event (in addition to satisfying my midlife crisis) is to raise money for the excellent work done by the Redhill & Reigate YMCA supporting disabled and vulnerable children / young adults.
I've been involved with this charity for a few years and everything that I raise will go towards a new facility that we are currently setting up in the community to be opened in April 2011.
My aim is to raise at least £1500 which would provide equipment such as Bubble tubes / Soft play shapes for the Sensory Room & Soft Play Areas within the new Disability hub.
Please give whatever you feel able to, every £ raised will go towards an extremely worthy cause.
And if anyone is near Nottingham on the 8th August then feel free to come along & shout encouragement. You'll get the opportunity to laugh at the sight of me in rubber & lycra.
Many thanks for your generosity
Ewart
