On the Saturday 16th October a group of staff, volunteers and friends of Oasis Academy Brightstowe are cycling 132 miles from London to Bristol - hopefully in about 11 hours.
We're aiming to raise £3000 for our work through Oasis Community Hub Brightstowe - an amount that will make a huge difference to our work.
As part of the Oasis family we are all about transformation – of individuals, families and communities. The Hub works in the “four villages” of Sea Mills, Shirehampton, Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston, supporting people to live life to the full.
As well as our work providing positive activities and detached youth work with young people, there are two particular projects where the need is becoming overwhelming. This is why we need your help. By sponsoring the Extra Mile Challenge you will be helping us to develop our:
Family Work:
We work with families in crisis, supporting them to overcome the difficulties they may be facing – whatever it takes. It could be lending a listening ear at stressful times, helping with DIY or decorating round the house or meeting material needs (e.g. providing furniture, food etc). Your donation will buy food, school uniforms, paint and household appliances for families who can’t afford even the basics.
Community Mentoring:
We know that times of change in young people’s lives can be difficult for them - whether that’s going from primary to secondary school, getting a job or leaving home. These are the times when they are most at risk of “dropping out” and becoming a statistic. We provide mentors to work with young people as they face challenges – supporting them to overcome these obstacles and succeed. Your donation will help us to recruit and train these volunteer mentors.
