Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

All team members work for Eyeway Signs and Hills Numberplates Ltd., we have two teams entering.  One team is made up of two middle aged men; one overweight and balding, with the other being oversexed, we also have two younger members; one ex-Army soldier who will be required to remember his training to get us through, and a supposed IT geek who is just desperate to get out of the office!

The second team is made up of a middle aged man; who is the MD of Hills and Eyeway, and thinks he has something to prove to the youngsters, and three younger members, another ex-Army soldier who will be out to compete with the squady from team one, and two brothers who probably won’t realise it’s a team effort and will just compete between each other because of a long held grudge over a broken toy from their childhood!

We have all been forced, tortured or volunteered to enter the 2014 TREK50.  Teams of four are challenged with attempting to complete the event within 24 hours.  The event starts at 7am on the 21 June at Hollingworth Lake, Littleborough and is broken down into six sectors with check points at the end of each sector.  The route includes almost 8,000 feet of ascents, the equivalent of climbing Snowdon (3,560ft) and Ben Nevis (4,409ft) and is designed to test the limit of physical fitness, mental strength and team spirit..  TREK50 is not for the feint hearted and could take some teams up to 24 hours to complete the whole route.  I’m hopeful that with a little more force and torture we can easily complete the event before midnight!

TREK50 is a huge trekking event for teams on the Pennines, the range of hills often referred to as ‘the backbone of England’.

The area of outstanding natural beauty is renowned for its rugged moorland landscapes, steep sided gorge-like river valleys and rocky outcrops and uses many well-known trails that criss-cross the Pennine hillsides including The Pennine Way, The Pennine Bridleway, The Mary Townley Loop and The Burnley Way, these trails help to make this an interesting and challenging route.

The challenge aside we are committed to raise funds on behalf of MedEquip4Kids.

MedEpuip4Kids work with medical staff, community nurses and other registered charities to provide equipment and improve facilities in hospitals.  Their policy is to fund items known to improve the care provided to children, but not readily available within the NHS’ limited budgets.  The charity benefits around 79,000 children per year, and helps purchase equipment which includes: -

Lifesaving paediatric medical equipment such as defibrillators, scanners and monitors to ensure children’s units are fully equipped to deliver the best care.

Incubators and ventilators for neonatal units top help care for premature babies.

Toilet training tools to help aid disabled children overcome problems with continence.

Mobility aids like walking frames to give disabled children more independence.

Facilities to improve children’s experience of hospital treatment, such as multisensory rooms, play equipment, toys and more child-friendly waiting areas.

One of their current projects is to fund a patient transfer system for the children’s air ambulance service, so all funds raised will be gratefully received.

Check this page often for updates on our training schedule, and for information on how our fundraising is progressing.

Please donate what you can.  It's all for a good cause, and although it might be a step away from our usual fund raising activities, the challenge we face (some more than others), is the greatest one yet.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
