I am going to Mali, West Africa on January 15th for a 3 month placement to work with the United Nations Association International Service. They are an international development Charity.

Mali is the 5th poorest country in the world. Over 90% of Malians live on less than $2 a day. The country is heavily dependant on foreign aid, and its economy is vulnerable to fluctuations in world prices for cotton and gold which are its main exports.

The projects I will be working on are to promote Human rights in particular those of woman, children and people with disabilities. I will be based in the capital city, Bamako. My placement is funded eg flights and accomodation etc so any donations will be going towards the projects I will be working on, mainly for resources and aid for the local people I will be working with.

I have so many ideas and things I want to do and with International Service and a great team behind me I believe I can make a difference to some of the people in Mali.

Please help in any way you can. I will be writing a blog and publising regular updates while in Mali so you can keep track of the progress of the projects and in order to raise further awareness of the issues.
