Story
It's almost that time of year again, when Fiona dons her rather fetching wetsuit and sets off into open water to swim a mile, swallowing copious amounts of muddy lake water and dodging the blows of overzealous outdoor swimmers as she goes. This year, Fiona is being joined by paternal legend, Rob Scott, who is swimming the half mile.
Team Scotty would like to raise money for Verity, a charity close to their hearts. Verity is the only charity in the UK for women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition with which Fiona was diagnosed as a teenager.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is not particularly well-known or understood. It is one of the leading causes of fertility problems in women and women with PCOS are prone to many additional health problems, including insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, weight gain, heart disease, depression and mood changes, excess hair or hair loss and skin problems. There is strong evidence that it is a genetic disease.
Verity is a small, self-funded charity run by trustees and volunteers who have lived with PCOS and understand the frustrations that all women who have been diagnosed go through. Their work focuses on providing information and support, via conferences, newsletters and a network of local support groups, including the Leeds and West Yorkshire group, which Fiona runs.
If you'd like to make a small donation towards the work of this charity (and for the opportunity to view even more classic wetsuit shots of Team Scotty), please donate a little cash below.
