Story
We did it!! After battling snow on Ben Nevis, swollen rivers on Scafell and complete exhaustion on Snowdon we completed the Three Peaks Challenge on Sunday 17 June in a very respectable time of 23 hours and 46 minutes!! That's 11,152 feet climbed, 38.5 km walked and 1,600 km driven!
It was an eventful experience full of ups and downs (and I’m not just talking about the mountains) and we all have more than a few stories to tell. There are some great pictures in the gallery below, including the brilliant grumpy Scafell summit picture, so have a look! Thank you to all donators, we had no idea we would raise so much and the Wood Street Mission will be ecstatic with the amount and put it all to very good use. Please keep donating if you haven’t yet though and read below for info about the Wood Street Mission and what your donations will be used for.
Big THANK YOU to all!!!
In case you don't know the 3 Peaks Challenge involves climbing the 3 highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in a single 24-hour period! It's pretty grueling and intense considering the distance we have to walk, the amount of travelling involved and the sleep deprivation. It's going to be hell!!!
So why are we doing this (we've asked ourselves this many times on practice walks!) and why should you give us some money?? Well it's all to raise funds for Wood Street Mission #mce_temp_url# a fantastic local charity that provides practical help to disadvantaged families in the Manchester and Salford area.
Throughout the year Wood Street provide secondhand bedding, clothing and baby equipment to families who are unable to afford these basic necessities. As well as this they supply toys and food parcels at Christmas to make sure 1,000s of children and families that would have gone without get a Christmas treat!
Wood Street are also keen to address the causes of poverty and feel that education is the key to ending the cycle. After spending time talking with families and children about the reasons for low school attendance they have launched a new exciting project! The charity will be supplying as many children in need as they can with new school uniforms, a really constructive way to encourage young people to attend school and stay in education. As well as this they will be running book clubs in which local children can pick up free books in order to increase literacy, another reason for low school attendance.
As you can see Wood Street work really hard to help local disadvantaged people and even though they are a small project their work really does make a difference to peoples lives. And it’s for this reason your money can go a really long way, here are some examples of what your donations can provide
· £15 buys one child a school uniform
· £250 buys new toys for more than 50 children at Christmas
· £1000 provides practical help for 10 families for a whole year, including food and gifts at Christmas
· £2500 provides a years worth of practical help for 100 children, including food and gifts at Christmas
So please give as much as you can!!
