Former England Football manager, Sir Bobby Robson fought cancer an incredible five times. Sadly, 17 years after his first diagnosis, he lost that long and courageous battle on 31 July 2009. He died very peacefully at his County Durham home with his wife and family beside him.  During the last 18 months of his life, and after retiring from football management, Sir Bobby worked hard towards a new goal - fighting cancer through his charity.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it....

 

In May 2009, on a beautiful sunny day in Yarm, a group of Boro fans who are regular readers of Middlesbrough's fanzine Fly Me To the Moon (FMTTM) and online message board (www.fansonline.net/middlesbrough/mb) got together to play a charity football match at Conyers School, Yarm in order to raise some money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.  After an unbelievably fantastic response by friends, family and the general public we managed to raise in excess of £2,000 and the match was covered in the local media. 

 

On Sunday May 16th 2010 at 2pm, a bunch of Boro fans and ex Boro players will be trying to go one further than last year in raising money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation by living their dream of playing at the Riverside Stadium after the fantastic generosity of Middlesbrough Chairman and Teesside patron of the charity, Steve Gibson, in providing the use of the stadium.  Each player has donated £200 to play in the match and will help to raise as much money as possible for the charity, with our target being £10,000. 

 

Entrance to the Riverside Stadium on the day is via the West Stand and is £1 for spectators, there will be refreshments available, face painting, half time penalty competition for kids and a mascot race including Roary the Lion.  Car parking is available outside the West Stand and is free of charge.  The doors will be open from 2pm...

 

Entrance to the after match party is £10 and that will include entrance to the Riverside Suite, food, presentation, charity auction and live band.  Etrance to the suite is limited to 160 people and so far 140 tickets have been sold,  the Suite will be open from 6pm until late....
