Story
Thanks for the little click to open this page!
I am an undergrad Economic student at the University of Birmingham and a member of Academics Stand Against Poverty (http://academicsstand.org/), Birmingham Chapter. I and my friends at ASAP are living off £1 a day for 5 days from 4th to 8th of November. Our motives are simple- we want to contribute as much as we can towards eradication of poverty and at the same time promote awareness about global poverty. We want to make a strong stand to support the act and help Nepal Youth Foundation (www.NepalYouthFoundation.org) to fundraise. When we started, £9,610 had been raised for the project (94% of the target). Our aim is to raise money for the last 6%!
As for the ‘Living Below the Line’ challenge, every member will be buying food/drinks for £5 for 5 days. Only water and salt is considered as free goods. We will be posting photos of our meals with details about the ingredients used keeping you updated throughout the challenge days.
I have also volunteered in a 5-week rural project in Nareshwor, Nepal with Intervol, Birmingham, UK in conjunction with Partnership for Sustainable Development (PSD), a Kathmandu-based charitable organisation in the months of July and August 2013. I was engaged in teaching English, mathematics and science to students, development of school, building/segregating and renovating classrooms and toilets, digging foundations for vital community amnesties such as drinking taps and painting murals and buildings. I have witnessed the living conditions of the people in those regions and feel very deeply about them.
So, for the love of humanity and to make a profound impact on eradication of poverty we require a little help from you!
Many Thanks!
