Years ago cancer struck a family very close to me. After watching my best friends struggle with watching the disease take over her mother I realised the enormity of how it really does affect people, not only those stricken by it but also all the people that love them, including me. Luckily for this story, after a long time of rehabilitation she has now had the all clear and life couldn’t be any better. But I know that this isn’t the case for everyone.

Knowing that she did get the treatment needed and was diagnosed early on was a blessing, but sometimes in the rural part of Wales in which I live things do get missed. Losing a lot of the local community, a very close community, to such a destructive illness just can’t be ignored.

Recently, on an even more personal level my grandmother has also been diagnosed with having cancer. Upon learning this it really hit home for me and has encouraged me to want to do my part in making a change.

My grandmother is from China and this challenge being set there felt like the perfect opportunity to fundraise as much money as I can for such an important cause. Raising money for Cancer Research Wales would be an honour for me in the hope we can help forward treatment and raise more awareness together.    

The end goal of this fundraising attempt is to walk the Great Wall of China between the 13^th & 21^st May 2017. I will be running events
for the next few months in order to reach the fundraising target, or you can donate your support via my JustGiving page. This will be a huge challenge and a massive £3000 goal has been set. All your support will be hugely appreciated and will go towards Cancer Research Wales and the amazing work they do.
