Dr Mike Basler and Dr Drew Smith are going on a sponsored diet for Hospice Africa. This is for 3 months and we have included Christmas.

By 2010 Africa accounts for 10% of the worlds deaths for cancer and the suffering is enormous and continous. Patients have little or no treamtments e.g. chemotherapy and only 5% ever see a doctor. The price of most painkillers is way out of the league of most people. Dr Anne Merrimen (via Hospice Africa) has developed a way of providing cheap affordable pain relief for most sufferers ( including children) which is working sucessfully in many parts of Africa. In Malawi ( a country with strong links to Scotland) there are staff trained to provide palliative care to over 10000 children and adults. Unfortunatley due to the poor state of the roads this cannot be done by bike or motorcycle and the team need a vehicle. The price of a second hand landreover is around £10k. We are dieting for this speciifc purpose.

We promis that next time we feel like a cake we will not eat it - we ask you to think of these poor people the next time you take a pain killer  and donate generously.

Thank you.

Mike and Drew
