Marathon des Sables 2015 #FearlessFarah

Marathon des Sables 2015 · 3 April 2015
I’m so thrilled and honoured to be supporting Great Ormond Street
Hospital for Children; a remarkable, world-class charity that needs our help to
save more lives, pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses and
to support their young patients and families. Did you know that Great Ormond
Street Hospital need to raise over £50 million every year to remain at the
forefront of paediatric medicine and to continue providing ground breaking
treatment to children from around the world?
MY GOAL IS TO FUNDRAISE £10,000.
WHY am I doing it? WHAT am I doing? HOW am I doing it? WHEN am I doing it?
WHY? Following a recent visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital, I was deeply inspired and humbled by the strength, courage and determination of the extraordinary children, their families, the staff and how exceptionally well they manage life-changing experiences on a daily basis. I instantaneously knew that I wanted to fundraise an extraordinary amount for this extraordinary charity. My challenge, as described by the organiser’s is “an extraordinary race – for extraordinary people – in an extraordinary place”. BINGO! A perfect fit!
WHAT? ‘THE TOUGHEST RACE ON EARTH’ also titled ‘Marathon des Sables’, MdS (which translates to Marathon in the Sands) is a series of marathons and a double marathon day after day in the Sahara Desert. It’s a cruel and fearsome multi-stage adventure consisting of 156 miles in 5 days through a formidable landscape in one of the world’s most inhospitable places on Earth where temperatures can reach up to 60 degrees celsius.
HOW? I’ll be joining 1299 runners from around the world of which less than 10% will be female competitors. The rules require that I am SELF SUFFICIENT & ABLE TO CARRY ON MY BACK EVERYTHING THAT I WILL NEED TO SURVIVE FOR THE 6 DAYS. That includes my food, drinks, equipment, sleeping bag, clothing, cooking supplies, first aid pack, emergency kit and my venom pack (for killer snake and scorpion bites, yes seriously!) …and most importantly, my make-up bag with my fave lippy, mascara & hairspray…hahaha!
The only thing we’ll be given is water and a piece of cloth with a couple of wooden poles for shelter at night (& a carrier bag for bathroom facilities…I’m not kidding)!
WHEN? I fly to Morocco on Friday 3 April 2015 with just a few hours to acclimatise before the race commences!
Any contribution that you can make will be very gratefully received and your donations will be a massive encouragement to keep me sparkling every extra mile… You’ll be making a big difference to the lives of many children from around the world too, THANK YOU.
As always, I’m truly grateful for your support – I really couldn’t do this without YOU, my extraordinary supporters.
I’ll provide tracking details nearer the time if you’d like to follow my progress during the race…wish me luck! May God be with me…
Big love from everyone at Great Ormond Street Hospital & especially me!
THANK YOU! X
