CARAS supports refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives in the UK, through practical, social and education initiatives. We empower our community members with the tools necessary to overcome existing barriers and feel part of a community.

Story

I am Federico from the Klevis Kola Foundation. I am writing you to ask for some support to continue helping refugee and asylum-seeking families in London.

As you know The Klevis Kola Foundation was created to continue and expand the work begun in 2002 by the group Student Action for Refugees (STAR), based at St George's, University of London. As you know, having volunteered with us, being a refugee in the UK can be a terrifying and disempowering experience, and refugees face the challenges of poverty, isolation and prejudice, of learning a new language and adapting to a different culture.

Actually we feel very lucky to have helped during these years about 300 children to integrate in the community. This year there are more than 60 children taking part at our After School Club where our volunteers help them with both educational and social activities. Children can try a wide range activities as sports, drama, arts, cookery, healthy eating workshops, film making, music, first-aid and rap to which they would not otherwise have access and they have the opportunity to improve their written and spoken English. Klevis Kola Foundation has been running also a Youth Club for older children who feel the necessity to have club just for them The youth club aims to work with the most socially isolated refugee and asylum seeking young people at this particularly vulnerable age. Through creating a safe and supportive environment with new opportunities and experiences, young people can develop their self confidence and feel part of their community.

With your donation and your support we can continue helping these children and these young people to improve their life in the UK

WIth our charity raffle you have the opportunity to support these families and win some fantastic prizes as well. It's just £3 for one ticket and any support is more than welcomed.
