As soon as we were married, my wife and I began trying for a baby.  We were both young (in our twenties) and healthy but we just weren’t getting pregnant.  After several months, we went to our GP to see if anything was wrong.  Thus began a cycle of tests, drugs, procedures and disappointments which lasted for the next four years, cost us tens of thousands of pounds and, crucially, produced neither the pregnancy nor the answers (about our infertility) that we both craved.

My wife and I hoped for nothing more than to raise a family together.  However, with that hope cruelly and inexplicably stolen away from us, we have struggled to come to terms with a future that too often appears empty and pointless.  Indeed, the strain has proven too much for our marriage and we have recently separated: now we must each search for new hopes and dreams which might ease but, no doubt, never extinguish the pain of a life without our own children.
