Fi Ramsden is raising money for Beyond Ourselves
“Fi Ramsden's fundraising”

In partnership with local Zambians we are helping to build and develop community schools in the Copperbelt region for children, mainly orphans, who cannot otherwise afford to go to school. We build classrooms, employ teachers, cooks and a nurse, and our hope is that communities will be transformed.

Story

Last July I accompanied Stuart Block for the first leg of his inspirational, some would say insane, journey by bike from Johannesburg to London. Stuart is an Economics teacher in Cranleigh with an interest in educational development and improving links between schools in Africa and the UK. He is raising money for schools in Zambia as well as working on a major building project for one of the schools. Amazingly, £30k is enough to build a basic school for 200 kids.

My journey from Johannesburg, via Botswana, to Victoria Falls in Livingstone and beyond to Lusaka was an unforgettable one. The people, the scenery, the mishaps, the friends I made...every day was a new adventure.

But it was just the start for Stu who has been pedalling on his tandem all this time, very often with an unsuspecting "stoker", but solo for much of it. In collaboration with the amazing Beyond Ourselves team, and with a little (well a LOT of help from his students from Cranleigh) Stu has built a new school in Zambia's Copperbelt region. So far raised he has raised an incredible  £95k of his £100k target for Beyond Ourselves and other selected charlities in Africa.

Stu can now be spotted looking wiry and bearded in a town 20 miles north of Paris. His clothes are looking tatty and he has forgotten how to use cutlery, but he is still going strong!!

So this is where I come in. Please help me to do my bit by sponsoring me to get from Paris to London this weekend. Hopefully we can raise enough to get him to his target of £100 000!!!!

Please, please please give a little, or a lot, to make this journey worth it.

I thought you might like to see what your individual donation could pay for

For example:

£8 will buy exercise books for a whole class

£12 will pay for blankets for a whole family

£25 will buy essential text books for the class

£48 will pay for a bike to get kids to/from school!!   AND........

£70 will put one child through secondary school for a year!!

More information can be found on the Beyond Ourselves website

And Stu's website www.beyondthebike.org

Thanks everyone and wish me luck!!!
