Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Finding Frasers Feet JustGiving page.

My name is Fraser Russell and I am 5 years old. I was born 11 weeks early and have Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy, a condition that affects muscle control and movement which means the tight muscle tone in my legs makes it difficult for me to walk. I need support every day because I trip and fall alot as I don't  have the balance to steady myself. I can't dress myself or go to the toilet easily and I can't walk very far and need support as the 'scissored gait' makes it difficult. This is caused by tight muscles in my legs and hips. My muscles become so tight my legs want to turn inwards and sometimes cross over each other at the knees. I can only walk very short distances as it takes more energy for me to walk than it does other children and it is very tiring, so I still need my pram for any long distances. My physical limitations also mean I can't ride a bike or swim. I am very determined and fight against my disability so I like to try everything my friends do - but I just can't do them like they can.

There is an operation in America I can have called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy which is used to treat the spasticity in the lower limbs. It will permanently reduce the spasticity and improve the way I sit, stand, walk and give me balance when walking by being able to put both feet flat on the floor. For me, this will mean a better quality of life and a brighter future. If I don't have this operation I could suffer further contractures (shortening muscles) joint pain, discomfort and could finally end up in a wheelchair.

My family and friends are trying to raise £60,000 to take me to America to see a specialist who can perform this operation and give me the chance of a better quality of life free from dependency on others. I would love it if you could support me and help me find my feet!

Please be rest assured that ALL monies raised through this site are going directly to Finding Frasers Feet. Because we can't be a charity ourselves we have the support of the Cash for Kids charity.
